The possibilities of digital research have altered the production, publication and use of research results. Academic research practice and culture are changing or have already been transformed, but to a large degree the system of academic recognition has not yet adapted to the practices and possibilities of digital research. This applies especially to research data, which are increasingly produced, managed, published and archived, but hardly play a role in practices of research as-sessment.
Aim
The aim of the workshop is to bring experts and stakeholders from research institutions, universities, scholarly societies and funding agencies together in order to review, discuss and build on possibilities to implement the culture of sharing and to integrate publication of data into research assessment procedures.

We can recommend booking a room at the NH hotel Alexanderplatz which is very close. This workshop is free of charge and Knowledge Exchange will cover the costs of lunches, coffees and teas. Registration is on a first come come first served basis.

This year’s tag line will be ‘Inside Out Library’: while ELAG 2013 will still be focused on specific, library related IT issues, we want to expand the aim and target audience by addressing innovative topics such as Open Access. ELAG 2013 will also host two pre-conferences: THATCamp, which focuses on researchers in the digital humanities, and an OpenAIRE workshop.
ELAG 2013, the 37th ELAG conference, will take place in Ghent, Belgium from May 28th until May 31st 2013.

Main conference: 3-5 September 2013 (opening the 3 September morning; closing 5 September noon).

Side Meetings: The conference will be held in the campus of an engineering school, the week before classes start. Plenty of room will be available for isde meetings (projects, working groups, birds of feather, …).
It is expected that ICT2013 will be opened by the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, who will welcome to Vilnius young people from all over Europe looking to a career in ICT, and open the Lithuanian pavilion, showcasing the best of Lithuanian inventors & inventions.
Neelie Kroes, European Commission Vice President for the Digital Agenda will open the ICT2013 conference, a forum for debating the key issues among Europe as a home for innovation and a destination for ICT research.
The ICT 2013 event will be the first opportunity to learn the details of research funding for ICT-related projects under Horizon 2020, the EU’s new research program for 2014-2020. The European Commission proposed an €80 billion package for research & innovation funding, as part of the drive to create sustainable growth and new jobs in Europe. Horizon 2020 will support the development of ICT in Science (in future and emerging technologies or e-Infrastructures); in industrial leadership (such as smart systems, robotics, photonics, etc.) and in societal challenges (such as eHealth, eGovernment and eSkills.)

Washington, DC – The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) is pleased to announce panel topics and to invite participants to register for the Spring event set to take place in Kansas City, Missouri on March 3-4, 2014.
The past year has seen growing momentum on many fronts of the movement towards “open”. Advances in the areas of open access, open data, and open educational resources have grown exponentially since the last SPARC Open Access Meeting was convened in 2012. As this push for greater openness continues, these three fronts are converging in interesting and potentially transformative ways. Join us as leaders from the library community, academia, industry, student community, and other research avenues discuss how open access, open data, and open educational resources are intersecting, and the impact this convergence will have on research and discovery. The meeting is designed to emphasize collaborative actions that stakeholders can take to positively impact publishing, policy, digital repositories, author rights, and licensing.

On 18–19 September 2014, the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) in collaboration with the ERC Scientific Council’s Working Group on Open Access is organising a workshop on Research Data Management and Sharing.
During this 2-day event different aspects of this important topic will be explored together with ERC grantees and other researchers, with representatives from funding bodies, universities and other research performers, with publishers, scientific societies, policy makers and other interested parties.
The workshop is organised around a number of interactive sessions with lots of room for discussion. The ultimate aim is to generate a number of concrete recommendations to relevant stakeholders on how to encourage and support good data management practices and facilitate the sharing and re-use of research data.
The workshop is by invitation only. A detailed draft programme, which will be regularly updated, and information on how to request an invitation are available on the ERC website at

Co-hosted by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), the meeting will offer a thought-provoking program with dynamic speakers from around the world to discuss the opportunities and challenges for libraries in a world of open science and open content, provide a valuable opportunity for participants to make connections, and learn best practices from colleagues around the world.
The conference is deliberately structured to deliver both an overview of the most important policy and philosophical developments as well as pragmatic sessions to help participants become more effective in their roles on a day-to-day basis. Featured keynote speakers include:
