A “Open Access Week 2012” (Semana Internacional do Acesso Aberto) decorre entre os dias 22 e 28 de Outubro e  constitui um evento global que pretende promover a divulgação de iniciativas e projectos no domínio do acesso livre ao conhecimento, nomeadamente a disponibilização de resultados científicos/académicos em repositórios institucionais, a publicação de revistas científicas em acesso livre, a disponibilização de recursos educativos abertos e outras iniciativas similares.

A Open Access Week será dinamizada por algumas centenas de instituições, grupos e associações vários países, com iniciativas programadas no decurso da semana. A informação relativa ao evento internacional está disponível no sítio www.openaccessweek.org.

The possibilities of digital research have altered the production, publication and use of research results. Academic research practice and culture are changing or have already been transformed, but to a large degree the system of academic recognition has not yet adapted to the practices and possibilities of digital research. This applies especially to research data, which are increasingly produced, managed, published and archived, but hardly play a role in practices of research as-sessment.

Aim
The aim of the workshop is to bring experts and stakeholders from research institutions, universities, scholarly societies and funding agencies together in order to review, discuss and build on possibilities to implement the culture of sharing and to integrate publication of data into research assessment procedures.

Practical Information and Hotel
We can recommend booking a room at the NH hotel Alexanderplatz which is very close. This workshop is free of charge and Knowledge Exchange will cover the costs of lunches, coffees and teas. Registration is on a first come come first served basis.

The European Commission proposed an €80 billion package for research & innovation funding, as part of the drive to create sustainable growth and new jobs in Europe. Horizon 2020 will support the development of ICT in Science (in future and emerging technologies or e-Infrastructures); in industrial leadership (such as smart systems, robotics, photonics, etc.) and in societal challenges (such as eHealth, eGovernment and eSkills.)

3rd LIBER Workshop on Digital Curation @ University of Vienna

The management of digital objects (e.g. articles, datasets, images, streams of data, multimedia objects) and non-digital objects (namely real-world entities, like authors, institutions, teams, geographic locations, etc.) is a crucial issue for the whole scientific and administrative process within an academic institution.

The need to unambiguously locate and access the digital resources, as well as associate them with the related metadata (e.g. authors, relevant entities, institutions, research groups, projects, administrative organisational units) is an essential requirement for managing, accessing, reusing, retrieving and preserving huge amounts of cultural and intellectual resources.

Along with the tide of Big Data, the relevance of this issue has been dramatically increased, making it clear that academic institutions have to take actions and develop plans that foster achievement of these goals. In this Conference, we argue that the introduction of comprehensive Data Management Plans is the imminent step for the Instiutions and their repositories which seek to fulfil requirements set to them.

Data Management Plans facilitate the curation process of digital objects. Thus, the time and effort spent by the curators is minimized.

On 18–19 September 2014, the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) in collaboration with the ERC Scientific Council’s Working Group on Open Access is organising a workshop on Research Data Management and Sharing.

During this 2-day event different aspects of this important topic will be explored together with ERC grantees and other researchers, with representatives from funding bodies, universities and other research performers, with publishers, scientific societies, policy makers and other interested parties.

The workshop is organised around a number of interactive sessions with lots of room for discussion. The ultimate aim is to generate a number of concrete recommendations to relevant stakeholders on how to encourage and support good data management practices and facilitate the sharing and re-use of research data.

O objetivo deste curso é preparar os gestores de repositórios e os bibliotecários para o desempenho de novas funções e de oferecer novos serviços em Gestão de Dados Científicos e, mais especificamente, preparar os formandos para lidar com os requisitos do Open Research Data Pilot do programa-quadro Horizonte 2020.
O Open Research Data Pilot H2020 surge com o propósito de melhorar e maximizar o acesso e a reutilização de dados de investigação resultantes de projetos financiados pela Comissão Europeia. A rede de repositórios institucionais portugueses de acesso aberto (RCAAP) pode desempenhar um papel importante nesta iniciativa europeia, quer no apoio aos investigadores no seio das suas instituições, quer na sua sensibilização para o cumprimento dos objetivos do programa piloto H2020, no que se refere aos requisitos de dados científicos em acesso aberto.
Resultados:
Pretende-se que os gestores de repositórios adquiram conhecimentos sobre os requisitos de dados científicos do H2020 e competências básicas para desenvolver a capacidade de curadoria de dados locais; sobre a gestão do acesso a coleções de dados científicos; sobre a oferta de novos serviços na biblioteca e nos repositórios sobre aconselhamento aos investigadores e elaboração de planos de Gestão de Dados ou sobre a gestão de dados científicos dentro de um projeto.

O objetivo deste curso é o de informar os investigadores sobre as políticas de Acesso Aberto e de Dados Abertos do Programa-Quadro Horizonte 2020. Através do Horizonte 2020 a Comissão Europeia declara que todos os artigos revistos pelos pares, que resultem de projetos financiados por esta organização, devem ser disponibilizados em acesso aberto.
A oficina irá fornecer informações detalhadas sobre os requisitos para publicação em acesso aberto e sobre a ação-piloto de acesso aberto a dados científicos e aos planos de gestão de dados de investigação. Aos participantes serão dadas informações práticas sobre como cumprir com os requisitos do acesso aberto, e como integrar esses requisitos durante todo o ciclo de vida do projeto – desde a elaboração de propostas à avaliação final.
Resultados:
Esta oficina tem como objetivo reforçar o grau de cumprimento das políticas de Acesso Aberto e de Dados Abertos no programa-quadro Horizonte 2020, por parte dos investigadores portugueses. Assim, os participantes ficarão a:
– Ter uma melhor compreensão das vantagens do Acesso Aberto;
– Conhecer as políticas europeias sobre o Acesso Aberto;
– Conhecer os requisitos de Acesso Aberto do Horizonte 2020;
– Saber como cumprir com esses requisitos (quando publicam um artigo, depositam uma publicação ou submetem um projeto a financiamento)

Co-hosted by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), the meeting will offer a thought-provoking program with dynamic speakers from around the world to discuss the opportunities and challenges for libraries in a world of open science and open content, provide a valuable opportunity for participants to make connections, and learn best practices from colleagues around the world.

The conference is deliberately structured to deliver both an overview of the most important policy and philosophical developments as well as pragmatic sessions to help participants become more effective in their roles on a day-to-day basis. Featured keynote speakers include:
